The IRS thinks you may owe Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).
Why you received IRS Letter 2194
- You filed a tax return but did not include Form 6251, Alternative Minimum Tax – Individuals.
- When the IRS processed the return, they determined that you are required to pay the AMT.
- The IRS sent Letter 2194 to notify you of the proposed taxes due.
Notice deadline: 30 days
If you miss the deadline: You will lose the opportunity to dispute the proposed changes with the IRS Office of Appeals. The IRS will send you a Statutory Notice of Deficiency that gives you 90 days to appeal the changes in the U.S. Tax Court.
